hen it was Monday, and we went to the school with Charlotte to teach some English! Woop! So even though it's supposed to start at 8:30 we rolled up around 9, getting well used to African time haha, and it turned out that there were roughly two classes as well as a diploma group. Since there was Jwan and I (who paired up to teach, why not) Charlotte and the English and French teacher at the school, it was decided that today at least we'd teach both the classes, the younger Forms 1 and 2 then e class of 3 and 4. We did the same kind of lesson with both, getting them to write a letter to us explaining and introducing themselves, and saying what they'd like to get from the holiday classes and so on. It was interesting and turned out that most of the older class wanted us to teach them German! Hahaha that was charlottes job, :) the teaching really was okay. The older much better than the younger, I mean, I really am not a fan of teaching, or like hahah children or like yah, but it was okay. Better than the computer class by miles.
So, unfortunately. That evening we decided to go all out at the most expensive restaurant in town, a whole 1000 francs for rice, beans and chicken. Although I didn't eat the chicks haah. Afterwards we went into squares to password, a hilarious 'bar' I'll tell about in one sec, and I really wasn't feeling too good. I didn't want to throw up! Anyway, the thing was that night both Jwan and I were horribly ill and definitely won't be eating there again hahah. Another reason for my roughness was accepting a piece of bread we'd been given in mbosha for breakfast, so my coeliac body wasn't particularly happy. So that Tuesday we didn't make it to the school. On Wednesday we went in, I think, I don't think I was feeling a lot better though. I think that day we taught both of the classes together, as there was fewer students, and we had the whole time- we did a big activity with a story about a girl, messie, which got everyone involved. We finished off with a hilarious game, I was crying, either Jwan or I wrote a name or object on the board and the kids had to act it out to one student who couldn't see. I was crying, ahaha so,me of the kids actions. Then Wednesday, the morning we had the olders, but it was a little difficult, we has planned a lesson based on a newspaper article from the story the previous day but it was more difficult that expected. The afternoon we had all the students again, Fred was there but it was so crazily difficult due to the complete range of students in the class. There was such a lack of equipment and like materials as well,
You're probably wondering what we did in all our afternoons and stuff hha. For first we actually did a lot of cooking, well, some cooking! I have learnt a few absolutely delicious recipes from Kurdish cooking, and I thank Jwan undoubtably for that. Another thing I can thank Jwan for is making me more girly! I think I have definitely made her care less about her appearance over the stay hahah we have rubbed off each other awfully haha. Expected to happen when you spend literally every waking moment together! So Jwan loves dresses, and one thing that is awesome here is firstly the rows of fabric sheds in the market, with rows upon rows of African fabrics, and secondly the rows of sheds of people tailoring!! We had tailored some items in the first week from an expensive guy, but we entered serious tailoring territory, and in the end Jwan left with 5 dresses? The last 4 projects for a woman who we visit so so often haha. I even got a dress made! It is just so awesome that she literally changes it right there and then if it is too big, or too small or whatever. So I also have become a bit of a pro of taking pictures, too, mainly of Jwan in dresses so she can show her cousin who she shares dresses with! So yeah hahaa we has so much fun. After our sickness from the restaurant, we cooked pretty much every meal haha pasta or rice salad became a favorite. Here the fruit and veg are just, so, cheap, an avocado for 3p hahaha it is crazy, so awesome and crazy. Am definitely going to miss the mangos and pineapples and just how cheap all the veg are back home.
Also in the evenings, we felt safe eating potatoes and eggs from a lovely lady in squares. It's so funny, each night it is the social hub of the town haha, people sell little meat kebabs, fish, corn all on fires along with 4 different people all selling potatoes and eggs. Eggs a re 150 each in a delish omelette and you can have however much potatoes you want. We followed charlottes advice on t he best woman, and on the night she wasn't there the food just wasn't the same
